Approved And Not Disappointed

Being disappointed with an outcome and God being disappointed with us are two totally different things. There are so many things in our lives that don’t turn out as we hope, and it is very easy to feel let down when this happens especially when it comes to how we may or may not have performed in that situation. We can look at them as failures or rejections, and then we can put this on how God views us.

But this is not how God views us. 2 Timothy 3:17 says that God makes us adequate for the things which He sets before us. 1 Corinthains 10:13 tells us that God is faithful to make it so that we can endure our trials and the struggle with those trials, framing them up with limitations. Romans 8: 28 tells us that God works all things together for good for those who love Him and who are called according to His purposes.

Even when we sin and do things opposed to what we know to be right and honoring to God, we know that we have a God who has already fully forgiven and declared righteous those who have placed their trust in Christ and received His free gift of salvation.  So, whether it is our stumbling when trying hard or our stumbling when rebelling, we know that we have a God who does not give up on us, who has a purpose for our lives, and who will fulfill that purpose.

Sarah writes today about our feeling of worthiness, and the reality is that in ourselves there is not one of us who is worthy. But we have been made worthy because of the Lamb who was slain on our behalf and who reigns forever putting on us His glory as a done deal inheritance.

Today in “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young (4/19)

I love you regardless of how well you are performing. Sometimes you feel uneasy, wondering if you are doing enough to be worthy of My Love. No matter how exemplary your behavior, the answer to that question will always be no. Your performance and My Love are totally different issues, which you need to sort out. I love you with an everlasting Love that flows out from eternity without limits or conditions. I have clothed you in My robe of righteousness, and this is an eternal transaction: Nothing and no one can reverse it. Therefore, your accomplishment as a Christian has no bearing on My Love for you. Even your ability to assess how well you are doing on a given day is flawed. Your limited human perspective and the condition of your body, with its mercurial variations, distort your evaluations.

Bring your performance anxiety Me, and receive in its place My unfailing Love. Try to stay conscious of My loving Presence with you in all that you do, and I will direct your steps.

The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.” Jeremiah 31:3

I delete delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. Isaiah 61:10

Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love. Psalm 31:16

Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, Psalm 107:8
